According tto the local police, at least five people died as a bomb exploded on Saturday nearby a US and Iraqi security center, close to a polling station in the town of Khanaquin (northeast of Baghdad).
Meanwhile, the Baghdad international airport will be closed for three days, to prevent any possible form of danger during the elections.
Since Wednesday, 54 Iraqis and 15 American soldiers were killed by fighters.
Security and police urged Iraqi residents in dangerous areas to stay at home until the elections.
