In order to fight the Palestinians resistance movements, Ariel Sharon (Israeli Prime Minister)
decided to ask his army for an unlimited and unrestricted operation in the Gaza Strip.
At the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, on Sunday he declared :"The current situation is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to continue" and that :
"The Tsahal [army] and the security forces have received orders to operate without any limits on time or their modus operandi to act against the terrorist organisations".
Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath, said a similar reaction from Israel will only undermine the prospects for peace beetween the countries:"This policy will not serve the peace process and I ask the Israeli people to reject this Sharon policy," as he claimed in a meeting in Ramallah with the Japanese Foreign Minister (Nobutaka Machimura).
