Palestinians are voting for their new Authority chairman who will succeed Yasir Arafat, who died on November 11 of the last year.
Turnout in Sunday's elections was high in the rural areas but relatively low in some towns such as Hebron.
Palestinian electoral officials said they expected a boycott call by Hamas to have some impact in areas considered to be Islamist strongholds.
Some eligible voters however, were already convinced that the presidential election can't sufficiently affect the general political situation.
